Just days before its superhero sequel The Marvels hits theaters, Marvel Studios has released a final trailer, containing quite the surprise: Tessa Thompson’s Valkyrie.

Thompson, 40, made her Marvel Cinematic Universe (MCU) debut as Valkyrie in 2017’s Thor: Ragnarok, reprising the role in 2019’s Avengers: Endgame and 2022’s Thor: Love and Thunder.

She wasn’t previously confirmed to appear in The Marvels – due in theaters on November 10 – though the new trailer shows Valkyrie giving some sage advice to Brie Larson’s Captain Marvel: ‘You alone Can stand tall without standing.’

The film – the follow-up to Marvel’s 2019 billion-dollar blockbuster Captain Marvel – stars Brie Larson as Carol Danvers aka Captain Marvel from the 2021 TV series Wanda Vision, Monica Rambeau from the 2021 TV series, and Iman Villani from the 2022 TV series. Brings it back with Kamala Khan. Ms. Marvel.

They must all team up and use their considerable powers to defeat a new threat like Thanos: Darban (Zave Ashton).

The trailer opens with flashback shots of Iron Man (Robert Downey Jr.) and Captain America (Chris Evans) as Nick Fury (Samuel L. Jackson) says, ‘Hero, that’s an old-fashioned concept.’

‘But the world could still use them,’ Fury adds, as we see flashback footage of a two-eyed Nick Fury with Carol, as we see a shot of both Iron Man and Captain America. ‘Whatever it takes.’

Carol adds, ‘We destroyed Thanos, but it’s not over,’ as we see a brief flashback of Thanos saying, ‘My work is inevitable. There’ll always be more to top it off, ’cause it cuts to a shot of the rogue Darbean.

‘This is only the beginning,’ Darban tells her followers, as she activates a purple ray that causes a rift between our universe and many others.

‘He tore a hole in space! A different reality is bleeding within us,’ Monica explains, as Carol is seen flying through space.

‘What are you ready to do?’ Nick asks Carol, who replies, ‘I’m invincible,’ even though she’s seen struggling with Darban, who says, ‘Your powers only make me stronger.’

Fury adds, ‘It can’t be fought, it can’t be controlled,’ as the title card teases, ‘Be there for the moment that changes everything’.

Fury is heard saying, ‘I call for one last fight’ as Dar-Ben says, ‘You cannot protect your people’ while Valkyrie tells Carol, ‘You stand alone. Can stand tall without being.’

‘They’re here,’ says Nick Fury as the title card rolls before the final shot, where Kamala is falling from the sky and Nick tells Monica that she has to use her powers to fly.

While Monica is sullen, Nick simply shouts, ‘Black Girl Magic’, and Monica soars into the sky at the end of the trailer.

Valkyrie’s appearance may lend more credence to swirling rumors that Marvel is leading to an A-Force movie.

A-Force was an all-female Avengers team in Marvel Comics, which debuted in 2015 as part of Marvel’s Secret Wars crossover event.
