There’s something odd about the first trailer for the upcoming sequel. Ghostbusters: The Afterlife.

Sony released the footage and revealed the title on Wednesday. Ghostbusters: Frozen Empire, which promises a big presence for the iconic Firehouse franchise and is set for a theatrical release on March 29, 2024. Gil Kenan directs the follow-up to Jason Reitman’s 2021 film, After lifewhich helped give new life to the series.

Paul Rudd, Finn Wolfhard, McKenna Grace, Carrie Cowan, Logan Kim and Celeste O’Connor reprise their roles from the previous film. They are joined by franchise newcomers Kamal Nanjiani, Peyton Oswalt, James Exter and Emily Allen Lind.

“For the first time in the history of New York, people froze to death in the middle of July,” Oswalt explains in the trailer about the so-called death cold. This prompts Rudd to ask, “Like, literally scared to death?”

canon (A boy called Christmas.) directed by After life A sequel to a script he co-wrote with Reitman. Jason Blumenfeld and Reitman produce the film, while Cannon and Jo Ann Peretano serve as executive producers.

The new project is the first in the franchise without the involvement of Evan Reitman, who passed away in February 2022. The filmmaker directed the original film. Ghostbusters which became a sensation upon its release in 1984, with subsequent sequels, and spawned subsequent films in the franchise, including After lifeWhich was led by his son.

Original franchise stars Bill Murray, Dan Aykroyd and Ernie Hudson appeared in it. After life. Earlier this year, Hudson teased that they would all be back, as would Annie Potts, her co-star in the early film and 1989’s Ghostbusters II.
