Marvel’s debuted on Wednesday with subpar review scores, making it the third-worst-reviewed MCU film of all time, and the third “rotten” film in the series’ history. Well, at least one of those points has now changed.

At the time of writing yesterday, there were approximately 60 reviews for The Marvels, giving it a score of 54% on Rotten Tomatoes. But over time, dozens and dozens of reviews came in and now with a count of 145, the film has ticked up to 61 percent, on the line considered “fresh” rather than “rotten” on the site.

However, this does not change the overall configuration. It is still the third-worst rated MCU film after Thor: Love and Thunder:

  • Thor: The Dark World – 67%
  • Thor Love and Thunder – 63%
  • Marvels – 61%
  • Eternal – 47%
  • Ant-Man and the Wasp: Quantummania – 46%

Still, with a 7% jump as more reviews come in, it’s not impossible. But at this point, it doesn’t matter if you’re the third or fourth worst Marvel movie. The low score feeds the quality narrative surrounding the MCU at the moment, but all eyes are on the film’s box office, which according to most predictions, could be the lowest in MCU history. Current predictions are for a $50-60 million opening weekend in the US and $140 million worldwide. On a $200 million budget it might be profitable, but there are marketing costs to consider and regardless, it’s not the performance Disney wants to see.

No doubt Disney wants things to change with the next MCU movie, which will be Deadpool 3, brought into the fold after the FOX acquisition, and co-starring fan favorite Hugh Jackman as Wolverine. After that, the next projects are Chris Evans-less Captain America 4, Thunderbolts like Suicide Squad and the much-troubled Blade Productions, which is starting its script from scratch as it tries to lose its star, Mahershala Ali. does not Then, and now we’re talking Phase 6 in mid-2025, it’s Fantastic Four, reportedly already cast, and the two Avengers movies, The Kang Dynasty, where its star Jonathan Majors theoretically Until then, everything can be in prison, and secret wars, which is in constant flux.

I’m sure Disney is hoping that Marvels will be at a low point and things will change from there. They’re already changing things up on Disney Plus, creating standalone shows that require less “homework.” They are also leaning towards more mature fare. Echo is MA-rated, and there’s also a possibility of a new Daredevil show. Both Deadpool 3 and Blade will be rated R. With the Marvels, at least, it doesn’t seem to be aimed at catering to a younger crowd, and Marvel may start catering to a mostly older fanbase instead, given the nature of their upcoming projects. .

As the days go by we will get audience response and box office numbers for The Marvels. I will look at it tomorrow and then have my thoughts.
